Master the V-bar pulldown with our expert guide. Learn the correct form, common mistakes to avoid, and how to build a thicker, stronger back.
How to Perform
- Attach a V-bar handle to the high pulley of a lat pulldown machine and sit with your thighs secured under the pads.
- Grasp the handles with a neutral grip so your palms face each other and extend your arms fully to feel a stretch in your lats.
- Lean back slightly, pull your shoulder blades down, and drive your elbows toward the floor to bring the handle to your upper chest.
- Squeeze your back muscles at the bottom of the movement while keeping your chest held high.
- Control the weight as you slowly return the handle to the starting position to maintain tension throughout the set.
Common Mistakes
- Using momentum or excessively leaning back to cheat the weight down
- Pulling the handle down to the stomach instead of the upper chest
- Shrugging the shoulders up toward the ears during the contraction
- Allowing the weight stack to slam between repetitions
