Solo Hip Flexor Stretch Guide | Improve Hip Mobility

Learn how to perform the solo hip flexor stretch with proper form to reduce lower back pain and correct pelvic tilt through targeted bodyweight movement.

How to Perform

  1. Begin in a half-kneeling position with your right knee on the floor and your left foot planted firmly in front of you.
  2. Maintain a tall, upright torso while keeping your hands on your hips or resting on your front thigh for balance.
  3. Tighten your glutes and tuck your pelvis slightly forward to engage your core and stabilize your lower back.
  4. Shift your weight forward slowly until you feel a deep, controlled stretch along the front of your right hip and thigh.
  5. Hold this position for thirty to sixty seconds while maintaining deep, rhythmic breaths.
  6. Slowly return to the starting position and repeat the sequence on the opposite leg.

Common Mistakes

  • Arching the lower back excessively to reach further forward
  • Leaning the torso too far forward instead of staying upright
  • Failing to engage the glute of the trailing leg
  • Allowing the front knee to collapse inward or drift past the toes
