Single Arm Dumbbell Front Rack Hold
A functional stability hold that challenges your lateral core and improves posture through unilateral loading.
How to perform.
Follow the sequence — setup is half the lift.
Clean or lift a single dumbbell to shoulder height and hold it in the front rack position by resting one end on your shoulder with your elbow tucked tight to your ribs.
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and keep your ribs tucked down toward your hips to maintain a neutral spine.
Squeeze your glutes and engage your core to resist the weight's tendency to pull your torso into a side-bend or rotation.
Drive your feet into the floor and look straight ahead while keeping the non-working arm at your side or slightly out for balance.
Hold this position for the prescribed amount of time while maintaining deep, controlled breaths.
Lower the weight safely to the floor and repeat on the opposite side to ensure symmetrical development.
Common mistakes.
Fix these first — they cost reps, kilos, and joints.
- Exaggerated arching of the lower back.
- Allowing the elbow to flare out away from the torso.
- Leaning toward or away from the side holding the weight.
- Holding your breath rather than maintaining intra-abdominal pressure.
