Lying Hamstring Stretch with Band Guide
Learn the correct form for the lying hamstring stretch with a band to improve flexibility, reduce stiffness, and support lower back health.
How to Perform
- Lie flat on your back on a firm surface with both legs extended straight.
- Loop a long resistance band around the arch of your right foot and hold one end of the band in each hand.
- Slowly lift your right leg toward the ceiling while keeping the knee straight and the left leg pressed firmly against the floor.
- Walk your hands up the band to increase tension until you feel a moderate stretch in the back of your thigh.
- Hold the position for thirty to sixty seconds while maintaining deep, rhythmic breathing.
- Lower the leg slowly under control and repeat the process on the left side.
Common Mistakes
- Locking the knee excessively or allowing it to bend too much during the lift
- Lifting the non-stretching leg off the floor
- Holding your breath which creates unnecessary muscle tension
- Pulling the leg too aggressively beyond a comfortable range of motion
