Lying Hamstring Stretch with Band Guide

Learn the correct form for the lying hamstring stretch with a band to improve flexibility, reduce stiffness, and support lower back health.

How to Perform

  1. Lie flat on your back on a firm surface with both legs extended straight.
  2. Loop a long resistance band around the arch of your right foot and hold one end of the band in each hand.
  3. Slowly lift your right leg toward the ceiling while keeping the knee straight and the left leg pressed firmly against the floor.
  4. Walk your hands up the band to increase tension until you feel a moderate stretch in the back of your thigh.
  5. Hold the position for thirty to sixty seconds while maintaining deep, rhythmic breathing.
  6. Lower the leg slowly under control and repeat the process on the left side.

Common Mistakes

  • Locking the knee excessively or allowing it to bend too much during the lift
  • Lifting the non-stretching leg off the floor
  • Holding your breath which creates unnecessary muscle tension
  • Pulling the leg too aggressively beyond a comfortable range of motion
