How to Perform

  1. Adjust the seat height so that the handles align with the middle of your chest when you are seated.
  2. Sit with your back and head firmly against the pad and plant your feet flat on the floor for stability.
  3. Grasp the handles with a full grip and retract your shoulder blades to create a solid base against the backrest.
  4. Press the handles forward by extending your arms until they are straight but not locked at the elbow.
  5. Lower the weight slowly under control until the handles are back in the starting position near your chest.
  6. Maintain a constant tension on the pectorals by avoiding a full rest at the bottom of the repetition.

Common Mistakes

  • Flaring the elbows out too wide which puts excessive strain on the shoulder joints.
  • Allowing the lower back to arch excessively away from the seat pad during the press.
  • Bouncing the weight arms off the safety stops instead of using a controlled range of motion.
