How to Perform
- Adjust the weight plates on the machine and lie back against the padded support with your shoulders tucked under the shoulder pads.
- Place your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform with your toes pointed slightly outward.
- Straighten your legs to lift the weight slightly and disengage the safety locks using the side handles.
- Inhale and lower the platform slowly by bending your knees until your thighs are slightly past parallel with the footplate.
- Exhale as you drive through your heels to push the platform back to the starting position.
- Maintain a slight bend in your knees at the top of the movement to keep tension on the muscles.
- Engage the safety locks immediately once your set is complete before exiting the machine.
Common Mistakes
- Locking the knees at the top of the repetition
- Allowing the lower back or glutes to lift off the back pad
- Pushing primarily through the toes rather than the heels
- Using a range of motion that is too shallow to engage the quads
