Left Neck Stretch Guide: Relieve Tension Safely

Learn how to perform the left neck stretch correctly to alleviate stiffness, improve mobility, and reduce tension in the upper traps.

How to Perform

  1. Sit or stand tall with your shoulders relaxed and your spine in a neutral position.
  2. Lower your right ear toward your right shoulder without lifting the shoulder toward your ear.
  3. Place your right hand lightly on the left side of your head to provide a very gentle assist if necessary.
  4. Reach your left arm down and slightly away from your body to increase the pull along the side of the neck.
  5. Hold this position for 20 to 30 seconds while maintaining deep, rhythmic breathing.
  6. Slowly return your head to the center position before repeating on the other side or finishing.

Common Mistakes

  • Shrugging the right shoulder upward to meet the ear.
  • Applying excessive downward pressure with the hand on the head.
  • Holding your breath or tensing the jaw during the stretch.
  • Leaning the entire torso to the side instead of moving only the neck.
