Left Neck Stretch Guide: Relieve Tension Safely
Learn how to perform the left neck stretch correctly to alleviate stiffness, improve mobility, and reduce tension in the upper traps.
How to Perform
- Sit or stand tall with your shoulders relaxed and your spine in a neutral position.
- Lower your right ear toward your right shoulder without lifting the shoulder toward your ear.
- Place your right hand lightly on the left side of your head to provide a very gentle assist if necessary.
- Reach your left arm down and slightly away from your body to increase the pull along the side of the neck.
- Hold this position for 20 to 30 seconds while maintaining deep, rhythmic breathing.
- Slowly return your head to the center position before repeating on the other side or finishing.
Common Mistakes
- Shrugging the right shoulder upward to meet the ear.
- Applying excessive downward pressure with the hand on the head.
- Holding your breath or tensing the jaw during the stretch.
- Leaning the entire torso to the side instead of moving only the neck.
