Glute Kickback Machine
A precision-focused isolation movement designed to stabilize the hips and maximize hypertrophy in the gluteus maximus.
How to perform.
Follow the sequence — setup is half the lift.
Adjust the chest pad and handles so your torso is supported and your spine remains in a neutral position throughout the movement.
Place the arch of your foot firmly against the center of the foot platform or the padded lever arm.
Engage your core and maintain a slight bend in your standing leg to ensure stability.
Drive the weight back by extending your hip until your working leg is fully straightened behind you.
Squeeze your glutes at the peak of the contraction while avoiding any rounding or arching of the lower back.
Slowly return the weight to the starting position under control without letting the stack touch.
Common mistakes.
Fix these first — they cost reps, kilos, and joints.
- Excessive arching of the lumbar spine to gain more range of motion.
- Using momentum or swinging the leg instead of a controlled muscle contraction.
- Twisting the hips outward rather than keeping them squared to the machine.
- Allowing the knee of the working leg to lock out aggressively.
Muscles worked.
The primary movers do the work; the stabilizers keep the path honest.
