Dumbbell Zercher Reverse Lunge Form Guide

Master the Dumbbell Zercher Reverse Lunge with our expert guide. Build quad strength and core stability with this effective unilateral leg exercise.

How to Perform

  1. Hold a single dumbbell horizontally against your upper chest, cradling it in the crooks of your elbows with your forearms tucked tight.
  2. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and engage your core to maintain an upright torso position.
  3. Take a controlled step backward with one leg and lower your hips until both knees are bent at approximately 90-degree angles.
  4. Ensure your front knee is tracked directly over your ankle and your back knee is hovering just above the floor.
  5. Drive through the heel of your front foot to return to the starting standing position.
  6. Maintain a vertical spine throughout the entire movement to prevent the weight from pulling your shoulders forward.
  7. Complete all repetitions on one side before switching or alternate legs for a total set.

Common Mistakes

  • Allowing the torso to lean too far forward under the weight
  • Letting the front knee cave inward during the descent
  • Taking a step that is too short, which can cause excessive heel lift
  • Rounding the upper back instead of keeping the chest tall
