Core
Cable Crunch
A high-tension isolation movement designed to build thick, defined abdominal muscles using constant cable resistance.
How to perform.
Follow the sequence — setup is half the lift.
Attach a rope handle to a high pulley and kneel several feet back from the machine.
Grasp the rope and pull your hands to your face or the sides of your head, locking your hips in a fixed position.
Exhale and flex your spine to pull your elbows down towards your knees, focusing entirely on contracting your abdominals.
Stop the movement once your elbows reach mid-thigh level, ensuring your hips have not shifted backward.
Pause for a second at the bottom of the movement to maximize muscle fiber recruitment.
Slowly return to the starting position while maintaining tension on the core and resisting the weight on the way up.
Common mistakes.
Fix these first — they cost reps, kilos, and joints.
- Using the hip flexors to pull the weight down instead of flexing the spine.
- Pulling with the arms and shoulders rather than the abdominal wall.
- Sitting back on the heels which reduces the range of motion and tension.
- Moving the head and neck independently of the torso during the crunch.
Muscles worked.
The primary movers do the work; the stabilizers keep the path honest.
