Cable Chest Fly Guide: Master Form and Technique

Learn how to perform the cable chest fly with perfect form. Our guide covers muscle targets, step-by-step instructions, and common training errors.

How to Perform

  1. Set the cable pulleys to shoulder height and attach a single-grip handle to each side.
  2. Grasp both handles and step forward into a staggered stance to create stability while keeping your spine neutral.
  3. Extend your arms out to the sides with a slight bend in the elbows to protect the joints.
  4. Exhale as you bring your hands together in a wide arc until they meet in front of your chest.
  5. Squeeze your chest muscles at the peak of the movement for one second.
  6. Inhale as you slowly return your arms to the starting position, maintaining control throughout the stretch.

Common Mistakes

  • Locking the elbows completely straight during the movement
  • Using momentum or swinging the torso to move the weight
  • Allowing the shoulders to hunch forward instead of keeping them retracted
  • Setting the weight too heavy and shortening the range of motion
