Smith Machine Slight Incline Press Guide
Master the Smith Machine slight incline press to build upper chest mass with better stability and muscle isolation.
How to Perform
- Position an adjustable bench at a 15 to 30-degree angle and center it within the Smith machine frame.
- Lie flat on the bench and identify a grip that is slightly wider than shoulder-width apart to ensure your forearms remain vertical at the bottom.
- Unrack the bar by rotating the hooks and extend your arms fully without locking your elbows.
- Lower the bar slowly toward your upper chest, stopping just before it touches your body to maintain tension.
- Press the bar back to the starting position by engaging your pectoral muscles while keeping your shoulder blades retracted.
- Complete your repetitions and rotate the bar to re-engage the safety hooks once finished.
Common Mistakes
- Setting the bench at too high an angle which shifts the tension toward the shoulders.
- Flaring the elbows out excessively, which can cause strain on the rotator cuff.
- Bouncing the bar off the chest rather than using a controlled tempo.
