How to Perform

  1. Attach a straight bar or rope handle to the high pulley and stand facing the machine with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Grasp the attachment with an overhand grip and step back until your arms are fully extended and you feel a slight stretch in your lats.
  3. Hinge slightly forward at the hips while keeping your chest up and maintaining a soft bend in your elbows.
  4. Contract your lats to pull the bar down in a wide arc toward your thighs until it touches or sits just in front of your legs.
  5. Squeeze your back muscles at the bottom of the movement for a full second while keeping your torso stationary.
  6. Slowly resist the weight as you return the bar to the starting position ensuring your arms stay parallel with your ears.
  7. Maintain constant tension throughout the set by not allowing the weight stack to touch between repetitions.

Common Mistakes

  • Bending the elbows excessively which turns the movement into a tricep extension.
  • Using momentum or swinging the torso to move the weight instead of using the lats.
  • Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears which shifts tension to the upper trapezius.
  • Shortening the range of motion by stopping the rep before the lats are fully stretched.
