Chest
Cable Crossover
A precise isolation movement designed to maximize chest contraction and define the lower pectoral fibers.
How to perform.
Follow the sequence — setup is half the lift.
Set the pulleys to the highest position on both sides of the cable crossover machine and select an equal weight for each.
Grasp the handles with an overhand grip and stand in the center of the machine, stepping one foot forward for a stable, staggered stance.
Lean your torso slightly forward from the hips and extend your arms out to the sides with a slight bend in the elbows.
Contract your chest to pull the handles down and inward in a wide arc until your hands meet or slightly cross in front of your midsection.
Squeeze the pectoral muscles at the peak of the movement for one second to maximize tension.
Slowly reverse the motion, allowing your arms to return to the starting position while maintaining the slight bend in your elbows.
Keep your shoulders retracted and your chest up throughout the entire set to ensure the pectorals remain the primary mover.
Common mistakes.
Fix these first — they cost reps, kilos, and joints.
- Using excessive momentum or swinging the torso to move the weight.
- Allowing the elbows to fully lock out or bend excessively during the rep.
- Pressing the weight downward with the triceps rather than hugging inward with the chest.
- Bringing the shoulders forward into a rounded position at the end of the movement.
Muscles worked.
The primary movers do the work; the stabilizers keep the path honest.
