How to Master the Wall Handstand | Strength Guide

Learn the correct form for the wall handstand to build elite shoulder strength and stability with our step-by-step bodyweight guide.

How to Perform

  1. Place your hands on the floor about six inches away from a wall, keeping them shoulder-width apart with fingers spread wide.
  2. Kick one leg up towards the wall while simultaneously pushing through your palms to lift your hips over your shoulders.
  3. Rest your heels lightly against the wall and straighten your legs to create a long, rigid line from your wrists to your ankles.
  4. Push the floor away actively to shrug your shoulders toward your ears, ensuring your elbows remain fully locked.
  5. Tuck your pelvis and pull your ribs in to engage your core and prevent excessive arching in your lower back.
  6. Maintain a neutral neck position by looking at a point on the floor slightly in front of your hands.
  7. Lower one leg at a time back to the starting position with control to complete the set.

Common Mistakes

  • Arching the lower back into a banana shape
  • Allowing the elbows to bend or flare outward
  • Looking straight at the wall instead of the floor
  • Sinking into the shoulder joints rather than pushing upward
