Single-Leg Lunge with Kettlebell Guide
Master the single-leg kettlebell lunge to build calf strength and lower body stability with our expert, step-by-step coaching guide.
How to Perform
- Stand upright while holding a kettlebell in the hand opposite of your leading leg.
- Step one foot forward and lower your hips until both knees are bent at approximately a 90-degree angle.
- Shift your weight slightly onto the ball of the front foot to engage the calf throughout the movement.
- As you descend, perform a controlled heel raise with the front foot at the bottom of the lunge.
- Lower the front heel back to the floor before driving through the midfoot to return to the starting position.
- Complete all repetitions on one side before switching the kettlebell to the other hand and repeating with the other leg.
Common Mistakes
- Allowing the front knee to collapse inward during the descent.
- Rushing the heel raise which reduces tension on the calf muscle.
- Leaning too far forward and losing spinal alignment.
- Using a kettlebell that is too heavy to maintain balance.
