How to Do a Quad Stretch: Technique and Benefits
Learn the proper way to perform a standing quad stretch to improve leg flexibility, reduce knee pain, and recover faster after lower body workouts.
How to Perform
- Stand upright on one leg with your feet hip-width apart and your core engaged for stability.
- Bend your right knee and reach behind you to grasp the top of your right foot with your right hand.
- Gently pull your heel toward your glutes while keeping your knees aligned and pointing straight toward the floor.
- Push your hips slightly forward and tuck your pelvis to deepen the stretch in the front of the thigh.
- Hold the position for thirty seconds while maintaining a tall, upright posture.
- Slowly release the foot back to the floor and repeat the sequence on the opposite leg.
Common Mistakes
- Arching the lower back which reduces the stretch effectiveness.
- Allowing the stretching knee to flare out to the side.
- Leaning too far forward instead of maintaining a vertical torso.
- Pulling the foot too aggressively and causing joint strain.
