Plantarflexion Stretch with Band Guide
Learn the correct technique for the banded plantarflexion stretch to improve calf strength and ankle range of motion.
How to Perform
- Sit on the floor with your legs extended straight out in front of you.
- Loop a long resistance band around the ball of one foot and hold the ends firmly with both hands.
- Slowly push your toes away from your body against the resistance of the band as if pressing a gas pedal.
- Hold the fully extended position for two seconds to maximize the contraction in the calf muscle.
- Gradually release the tension and allow your foot to return to the starting position in a controlled manner.
- Repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions before switching to the other leg.
Common Mistakes
- Allowing the band to snap the foot back during the return phase.
- Bending the knee which shifts the focus away from the lower leg muscles.
- Holding the band too loosely and losing the necessary tension for movement.
- Curling the toes excessively instead of moving the entire ankle joint.
