Pendulum Squat Guide: Build Quad Strength and Stability
Master the bodyweight pendulum squat with our step-by-step guide. Improve your quad endurance, balance, and lower body coordination with this low-impact move.
How to Perform
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms extended in front of your chest for balance.
- Lower your hips into a standard squat until your thighs are parallel with the floor.
- Shift your weight slightly to one side and step your opposite foot out while remaining in the low squat position.
- Return the foot to the starting position and immediately shift to the other side in a fluid, pendulum-like motion.
- Maintain a consistent depth throughout the lateral shifts without standing up between repetitions.
- Keep your chest upright and your core engaged to stabilize the torso as you move sideways.
- Exhale as you push back to the center and inhale as you transition to the side.
Common Mistakes
- Rising out of the squat depth during the lateral transition
- Allowing the knees to cave inward while shifting weight
- Leaning the torso too far forward which strains the lower back
- Moving too quickly and losing control of the skeletal alignment
