How to Do Marching High Knees: Form and Benefits
Master the marching high knees exercise to improve hip mobility, strengthen your quads, and boost your heart rate with zero equipment.
How to Perform
- Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and your arms relaxed at your sides.
- Engage your core and lift your right knee toward your chest until your thigh is parallel to the floor.
- Simultaneously swing your left arm forward and your right arm back to maintain balance.
- Lower your right foot back to the starting position with control, landing softly on the ball of your foot.
- Repeat the movement with your left leg, driving the knee upward while swinging your right arm forward.
- Continue alternating legs in a steady, rhythmic marching motion while keeping your torso upright.
Common Mistakes
- Leaning the torso backward to compensate for limited hip mobility
- Landing heavily on the heels instead of the mid-foot
- Allowing the standing leg's knee to cave inward
- Rounding the shoulders forward and losing spinal alignment
