How to March or Jog in Place: Proper Technique Guide
Learn the correct form for marching or jogging in place to warm up, burn calories, and strengthen your hamstrings and glutes without equipment.
How to Perform
- Stand upright with your feet hip-width apart and your arms relaxed at your sides.
- Lift your right knee toward your chest until your thigh is parallel to the floor while simultaneously swinging your left arm forward.
- Lower your right foot back to the starting position with a soft landing on the ball of your foot.
- Repeat the movement with your left leg and right arm to complete one marching stride.
- Transition into a jog by increasing the tempo and adding a slight hop as you switch feet.
- Maintain a tall posture and engage your core throughout the duration of the exercise to stabilize your spine.
Common Mistakes
- Landing heavily on your heels instead of the balls of your feet
- Leaning too far backward or forward instead of maintaining a vertical torso
- Allowing your knees to cave inward during the lift or landing
