Machine Hip Abduction Guide: Form and Benefits
Master the machine hip abduction with our expert guide. Learn proper form, avoid common mistakes, and build stronger, more stable glutes.
How to Perform
- Sit firmly in the machine with your back flat against the backrest and your feet on the footrests.
- Adjust the outer thigh pads so they are resting against the outside of your knees.
- Grip the handles on either side of the seat to stabilize your upper body and keep your pelvis tucked.
- Push against the pads using your outer thighs to spread your legs as wide as comfortably possible.
- Pause for a second at the point of maximum contraction while maintaining tension in the glutes.
- Slowly bring your legs back to the starting position without letting the weight plates touch.
- Maintain a controlled tempo throughout the movement to avoid using momentum.
Common Mistakes
- Using momentum to swing the weight rather than controlled muscle tension.
- Leaning too far forward or arching the lower back off the seat.
- Allowing the weight stack to slam down between repetitions.
