How to Perform
- Place a kettlebell on the floor and stand over it with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart and your toes turned out slightly.
- Hinge at your hips and bend your knees to reach down and grasp the kettlebell handle with both hands using an overhand grip.
- Engage your core and pull your shoulders back to create a flat, neutral spine before initiating the lift.
- Drive through your heels to extend your hips and knees simultaneously, bringing the kettlebell up until you are standing tall.
- Squeeze your glutes at the top of the movement without arching your lower back or leaning backward.
- Reverse the movement by hinging your hips back and lowering the kettlebell under control until it touches the floor between your feet.
Common Mistakes
- Rounding the lower back during the setup or the lift.
- Squatting the weight up rather than hinging through the hips.
- Allowing the knees to cave inward during the ascent.
- Shrugging the shoulders upward instead of keeping them packed down.
