Master the isometric squat to failure. Learn correct form, avoid common mistakes, and build lower-body strength with this bodyweight endurance guide.

How to Perform

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your toes pointed slightly outward.
  2. Lower your hips back and down until your thighs are parallel to the floor, keeping your weight centered over your mid-foot.
  3. Keep your chest upright and extend your arms forward or clasp them in front of your chest for balance.
  4. Maintain this static position while breathing deeply and keeping your core muscles engaged.
  5. Hold the contraction without moving until your muscles reach absolute fatigue and you can no longer maintain the proper height.
  6. When your form begins to break, carefully stand back up to the starting position to complete the set.

Common Mistakes

  • Allowing the knees to collapse inward toward the midline.
  • Rounding the lower back or leaning too far forward with the torso.
  • Shifting weight onto the toes and lifting the heels off the ground.
  • Holding the breath instead of maintaining steady oxygen flow.
