Horse Stance Guide: Build Leg Strength and Hip Mobility
Master the horse stance with our guide. Improve your glute strength, adductor flexibility, and lower body stability using this traditional isometric hold.
How to Perform
- Stand with your feet significantly wider than shoulder-width apart and point your toes slightly outward.
- Lower your hips by bending your knees until your thighs are nearly parallel to the floor.
- Keep your torso upright and tuck your pelvis slightly to engage your core and prevent lower back arching.
- Place your hands together in front of your chest or extend your arms straight out to the sides for balance.
- Press your knees outward so they remain aligned over your toes rather than collapsing inward.
- Hold this static position for the prescribed duration while maintaining deep, controlled breathing.
- Drive through your heels to return to a standing position once the set is complete.
Common Mistakes
- Allowing the knees to cave inward toward the midline
- Leaning the chest too far forward instead of staying upright
- Rounding the lower back due to poor pelvic positioning
- Shifting weight onto the toes instead of the heels
