How to Do Head Turns: Neck Mobility Guide
Learn the correct technique for head turns to improve neck mobility, reduce stiffness, and release tension in the cervical spine.
How to Perform
- Sit or stand tall with your shoulders pulled back and your gaze fixed straight ahead.
- Slowly rotate your head to the right as far as comfort allows without moving your torso.
- Pause for one second at the end of the range of motion while maintaining a neutral chin height.
- Return your head to the center position in a controlled, fluid motion.
- Repeat the rotation to the left side, ensuring your shoulders remain stationary throughout.
- Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions.
Common Mistakes
- Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears during the turn.
- Moving too quickly or using momentum rather than muscle control.
- Dropping or tilting the chin rather than keeping the head on a level horizontal plane.
- Rotating the upper back and torso along with the neck.
