How to Do Head Turns: Neck Mobility Guide

Learn the correct technique for head turns to improve neck mobility, reduce stiffness, and release tension in the cervical spine.

How to Perform

  1. Sit or stand tall with your shoulders pulled back and your gaze fixed straight ahead.
  2. Slowly rotate your head to the right as far as comfort allows without moving your torso.
  3. Pause for one second at the end of the range of motion while maintaining a neutral chin height.
  4. Return your head to the center position in a controlled, fluid motion.
  5. Repeat the rotation to the left side, ensuring your shoulders remain stationary throughout.
  6. Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions.

Common Mistakes

  • Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears during the turn.
  • Moving too quickly or using momentum rather than muscle control.
  • Dropping or tilting the chin rather than keeping the head on a level horizontal plane.
  • Rotating the upper back and torso along with the neck.
