Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift Form Guide | Hamstring Exercise
Master the Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift with our expert guide. Learn the proper hip hinge technique to build stronger hamstrings and glutes safely.
How to Perform
- Stand with your feet hip-width apart and hold a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs with an overhand grip.
- Engage your core and pull your shoulder blades back to maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement.
- Initiate the movement by hinging at the hips, pushing them backward while keeping a slight, fixed bend in your knees.
- Lower the weights slowly toward the mid-shin level, keeping the dumbbells close to your legs and the weight distributed on your heels.
- Stop lowering once you feel a full stretch in your hamstrings or when your torso is parallel to the floor.
- Drive your hips forward and squeeze your glutes to return to the standing position without rounding your back.
- Exhale at the top of the movement and reset your posture before starting the next repetition.
Common Mistakes
- Rounding the lower back during the descent
- Letting the dumbbells drift away from the shins
- Bending the knees excessively into a squat-like motion
- Looking up at a mirror, which puts strain on the cervical spine
