Dumbbell Walking Lunge Guide: Form and Benefits
Master the dumbbell walking lunge to build quad strength and improve balance. Learn step-by-step form, common mistakes, and expert training tips.
How to Perform
- Stand upright with your feet hip-width apart and a dumbbell in each hand held at your sides with a neutral grip.
- Take a controlled step forward with your right leg while keeping your torso vertical and your gaze fixed ahead.
- Lower your hips until your right thigh is parallel to the ground and your left knee is hovering just above the floor.
- Drive through your front heel to stand up, bringing your left foot forward to meet or pass your right foot.
- Repeat the movement by stepping forward with your left leg to continue the walking sequence.
- Maintain a tight core throughout the movement to prevent the weights from swinging or pulling your torso out of alignment.
Common Mistakes
- Allowing the front knee to collapse inward toward the midline
- Leaning the torso too far forward and losing balance
- Taking steps that are too short, which can cause heel lift
- Banging the trailing knee hard against the floor
