Backward Shoulder Rotation Guide: Improve Posture and Mobility
Learn the correct technique for backward shoulder rotations to relieve tension, improve shoulder mobility, and correct rounded posture.
How to Perform
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms hanging naturally at your sides.
- Lift your shoulders upward toward your ears in a slow, controlled shrugging motion.
- Roll your shoulders backward by pulling your shoulder blades together toward your spine.
- Lower your shoulders back down to the starting position to complete a smooth circular arc.
- Maintain a tall spine throughout the movement without leaning your torso forward or backward.
- Coordinate your breathing by inhaling as you lift and exhaling as you roll the shoulders down.
Common Mistakes
- Moving the head forward or craning the neck during the rotation.
- Using a jerky, fast motion instead of a smooth and controlled circle.
- Bending the elbows to use the arms rather than moving from the shoulder joint.
- Holding your breath or tensing the jaw during the exercise.
