Trunk Rotation With Cable Guide | Oblique Strength

Master the cable trunk rotation with our expert guide. Learn proper form, avoid common mistakes, and build a stronger core and obliques.

How to Perform

  1. Position the cable pulley at chest height and attach a standard D-handle.
  2. Stand sideways to the machine with your feet shoulder-width apart and grasp the handle with both hands.
  3. Extend your arms fully in front of your chest and step away from the machine until you feel tension on the stack.
  4. Rotate your torso away from the machine in a smooth arc while keeping your arms straight and hips relatively square.
  5. Pause momentarily at the peak of the rotation while squeezing your obliques.
  6. Control the weight as you slowly rotate back to the starting position without letting the plates touch the stack.
  7. Complete the set on one side before flipping your orientation to train the opposite side.

Common Mistakes

  • Using the arms to pull the weight rather than rotating through the torso.
  • Allowing the hips to swing wildly instead of maintaining a stable lower body.
  • Moving too quickly and using momentum to swing the weight.
  • Locking the knees completely which can cause excessive strain on the joints.
