Trunk Rotation With Cable Guide | Oblique Strength
Master the cable trunk rotation with our expert guide. Learn proper form, avoid common mistakes, and build a stronger core and obliques.
How to Perform
- Position the cable pulley at chest height and attach a standard D-handle.
- Stand sideways to the machine with your feet shoulder-width apart and grasp the handle with both hands.
- Extend your arms fully in front of your chest and step away from the machine until you feel tension on the stack.
- Rotate your torso away from the machine in a smooth arc while keeping your arms straight and hips relatively square.
- Pause momentarily at the peak of the rotation while squeezing your obliques.
- Control the weight as you slowly rotate back to the starting position without letting the plates touch the stack.
- Complete the set on one side before flipping your orientation to train the opposite side.
Common Mistakes
- Using the arms to pull the weight rather than rotating through the torso.
- Allowing the hips to swing wildly instead of maintaining a stable lower body.
- Moving too quickly and using momentum to swing the weight.
- Locking the knees completely which can cause excessive strain on the joints.
