How to Perform
- Sit on an upright bench or stand with your feet shoulder-width apart while holding a dumbbell in each hand.
- Raise the dumbbells to shoulder height with your palms facing forward and your elbows bent at a ninety-degree angle.
- Exhale and press the weights toward the ceiling until your arms are fully extended but not locked out.
- Pause briefly at the top of the movement to ensure stability and control.
- Inhale and slowly lower the dumbbells back to the starting position at shoulder height.
- Maintain a tight core and a neutral spine throughout the entire range of motion to prevent arching your back.
Common Mistakes
- Arching the lower back excessively during the lift.
- Using momentum or leg drive to push the weights up.
- Clanging the dumbbells together at the top of the rep.
- Lowering the weights too quickly without muscular control.
