Pull-up Isometric Hold Guide: Build Bicep Strength

Master the Pull-up Isometric Hold to improve pulling power and bicep definition with our clear, step-by-step strength coaching guide.

How to Perform

  1. Stand beneath a pull-up bar and grip it with your palms facing toward you at shoulder-width apart.
  2. Pull yourself upward or use a box to jump until your chin is clearly above the bar.
  3. Tightly squeeze your shoulder blades together and down while keeping your core engaged to prevent swinging.
  4. Maintain a 90-degree or less angle at the elbows, focusing on driving your elbows toward your ribs.
  5. Hold this static position for the prescribed duration while maintaining a steady breathing pattern.
  6. Lower yourself under full control back to a dead hang position before releasing the bar.

Common Mistakes

  • Shrugging the shoulders up toward the ears
  • Holding your breath during the isometric contraction
  • Allowing the chin to rest on top of the bar for support
