Incline Static Hold: Upper Chest Isometric Guide
Master the Incline Static Hold to increase chest time under tension, improve stability, and build upper pectoral mass with dumbbells.
How to Perform
- Set an adjustable bench to an incline of 30 to 45 degrees.
- Sit on the bench with a dumbbell in each hand and rest them on your thighs.
- Lie back and press the dumbbells toward the ceiling until your arms are fully extended over your chest.
- Lower the weights slowly until your elbows are at a 90-degree angle and aligned with your torso.
- Maintain this bottom position for the duration of the set while keeping your chest muscles actively engaged.
- Exhale and press the weights back to the starting position once the hold time is complete.
Common Mistakes
- Over-arching the lower back to compensate for heavy weight
- Allowing the elbows to drop too far below the bench line
- Holding your breath rather than maintaining controlled nasal breathing
- Flaring the elbows out wide which increases stress on the shoulder joint
