How to Do High-Cable Lateral Raises for Cap Shoulders
Master the high-cable lateral raise with our expert form guide to build broader shoulders using constant cable tension and proper mechanics.
How to Perform
- Set the pulleys to roughly shoulder height or slightly above on a dual cable machine.
- Stand in the center of the machine and reach across your body to grasp the left handle with your right hand and the right handle with your left hand.
- Position yourself so the cables cross in front of your chest and take a small step back to create initial tension.
- Keeping a slight bend in your elbows, pull the handles out and upward in a wide arc until your arms are parallel to the floor.
- Pause for a moment at the peak of the movement to maximize the contraction in the medial deltoids.
- Slowly lower the handles back toward the starting position, maintaining control against the weight stack.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions while keeping your torso stationary.
Common Mistakes
- Using momentum or swinging the torso to lift the weight.
- Setting the pulleys too low, which changes the resistance profile.
- Bending the elbows excessively, turning the movement into a row.
- Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears during the ascent.
