How to Do Hercules Pillars: Bicep Isometric Guide

Master the Hercules Pillars exercise to improve bicep peak and forearm stability. Learn proper form, common mistakes, and expert tips for this cable hold.

How to Perform

  1. Position yourself in the center of a dual cable crossover machine with the handles set at shoulder height.
  2. Grasp one handle in each hand and step forward slightly to create initial tension in the cables.
  3. Extend your arms out to your sides until they are fully straight and parallel to the floor.
  4. Maintain a slight bend in your elbows and squeeze your biceps and triceps simultaneously to stabilize the weight.
  5. Hold this static position for the duration of the set while keeping your chest upright and your shoulder blades retracted.
  6. Slowly release the handles back to the starting position once the time interval is complete.

Common Mistakes

  • Bending the elbows too much which shifts the load away from the biceps.
  • Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears and engaging the upper traps excessively.
  • Arching the lower back to compensate for heavy weight.
  • Holding your breath during the isometric contraction.
