Dumbbell Shoulder Rotations Guide: Form and Benefits
Master the dumbbell shoulder rotation to strengthen your rotator cuff, improve mobility, and prevent injuries with our expert form guide.
How to Perform
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a light dumbbell in each hand.
- Raise your upper arms until they are parallel to the floor with your elbows bent at a ninety-degree angle.
- Rotate your forearms upward until your knuckles face the ceiling while keeping your elbows pinned in space.
- Pause briefly at the top of the movement to feel the contraction in your rear shoulders.
- Slowly rotate your forearms back down until they are parallel with the floor or slightly below.
- Maintain a neutral spine and engaged core throughout the entire range of motion.
Common Mistakes
- Using excessively heavy weight that compromises form
- Allowing the elbows to drop below shoulder height
- Arching the lower back to compensate for limited mobility
