How to Perform

  1. Secure your feet under the leg pads and sit on the end of a bench set to a 15 to 30-degree decline.
  2. Lie back slowly while bringing the dumbbells to the sides of your chest with a neutral or overhand grip.
  3. Press the weights upward toward the ceiling until your arms are fully extended but not locked out at the elbows.
  4. Lower the dumbbells under control until they are level with your chest, feeling a stretch in the lower pectorals.
  5. Keep your elbows tucked at a 45-degree angle to your torso throughout the entire range of motion.
  6. Exhale as you drive the weights back to the starting position, focusing on squeezing the chest muscles at the top.

Common Mistakes

  • Clashing the dumbbells together at the top of the movement
  • Extending the arms too far toward the feet rather than straight up
  • Bouncing the weights off the chest to create momentum
