Cable Fly Middle Chest Guide: Form, Benefits, and Tips
Learn how to perform the middle chest cable fly with perfect form. Use this isolation exercise to build pectoral size and definition with constant tension.
How to Perform
- Set the pulleys on both sides of the cable machine to approximately shoulder height.
- Grasp the handles and stand in the center of the machine with one foot forward for a stable, staggered stance.
- Maintain a slight bend in your elbows and extend your arms out to your sides until you feel a comfortable stretch in your chest.
- Exhale as you bring your hands together in a wide arc until they meet directly in front of your mid-chest.
- Squeeze your pectoral muscles hard at the peak of the movement for one second.
- Slowly reverse the motion back to the starting position while maintaining control of the weight.
- Keep your shoulders depressed and retracted throughout the entire set to keep the focus on the chest.
Common Mistakes
- Pressing the weight instead of flying by bending the elbows too much during the concentric phase.
- Allowing the shoulders to roll forward at the end of the movement.
- Using excessive momentum or leaning the torso too far forward to move the weight.
- Clapping the handles together with force rather than maintaining tension.
