Decline Cable Chest Press Guide | Lower Pec Targeting
Learn the correct technique for the decline cable chest press to isolate the lower pectorals and improve chest definition with constant cable tension.
How to Perform
- Position the pulleys to the highest setting on both sides of the cable crossover machine and attach D-handles.
- Grasp both handles and stand in the center of the machine, taking a step forward into a staggered stance to create a stable base.
- Lean your torso forward slightly while maintaining a flat back and start with your hands near yours ribs, elbows flared out and back.
- Press the cables downward and inward at a 45-degree angle toward your hips, fully extending your arms without locking the elbows.
- Squeeze your chest muscles at the bottom of the movement where your hands meet or slightly cross.
- Return to the starting position slowly, allowing your hands to move back and up until you feel a comfortable stretch in your lower chest.
- Maintain a consistent torso angle throughout the entire set to ensure the tension remains on the lower pectorals.
Common Mistakes
- Using too much weight which causes the shoulders to round forward
- Pressing straight forward instead of at a downward angle
- Losing the forward lean and standing too upright
