Abdominal Stabilization Guide: Build a Stronger Core

Master abdominal stabilization with our step-by-step guide. Learn to engage your deep core muscles for improved posture and spinal health.

How to Perform

  1. Lie flat on your back on the mat with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
  2. Place your arms by your sides and find a neutral spine position where your lower back is neither arched nor pressed forcefully into the floor.
  3. Inhale deeply into your diaphragm, then exhale while drawing your navel toward your spine to engage the deep core muscles.
  4. Maintain this tension while lifting one foot an inch off the ground without allowing your pelvis to tilt or rotate.
  5. Lower your foot slowly back to the floor and repeat the movement with the opposite leg while keeping your torso perfectly still.
  6. Focus on breathe control throughout the entire set, ensuring your ribcage stays down and your midsection remains firm.

Common Mistakes

  • Arching the lower back away from the mat
  • Holding your breath instead of using controlled diaphragmatic breathing
  • Allowing the hips to rock side to side during leg movements
  • Excessive tension in the neck and shoulders
